Attracting butterflies, bees and bumblebees to your garden
Both butterflies and bees bring your garden to life, and provide additional beautiful displays of color. Bees and bumblebees are also beneficial insects, and play an important part in our ecosystems through their pollination. A vibrant garden is a happy garden, and in return for your vibrant and thriving plants providing both food and shelter for the insects, the same insects then help keep your garden's ecosystem in superb health.
To attract these beneficial insects to your garden, make sure you plant flowers that are rich in color and nectar. Butterflies and bees also like plants that have a strong smell, making it easier for them to find their way around the garden. Lilacs and honeysuckle are perfect examples of flowers that immediately appeal to butterflies, bees and bumblebees because of their strong smell. By also taking the time to look after your garden and the plants in it, you also increase the chances of these small friends coming to visit. If you have lilacs, for instance, it's important to prune them to keep the lilac in a nice, dense shape. Here you can make use of helpful tools to minimise the cuts from pruning, such as our hedge shears and secateurs. Both hedge shears and secateurs also reduce stress on your wrists and muscles, while being gentle on the plant you are pruning.
